With dear friends The Tryouts and Orangey. $10.
My friends David and Chelsea (The Tryouts) are back from Australia for one night only. Orangey is my old pal j. who used to drum in the Skye Wallace Band when I was lucky enough to play bass with them. They’ve all agreed to have me open and my lifeline-of-a-friend Erik Bleich is going to back me up. It’s an early show on a school night.
Friday June 27th • Toronto
The Cameron House • 8:30pm
As a part of Herding Cat • PWYC
Herding Cats is freight train of talent. Drummer Pat Phillips - who you have seen play with me before, guitarist Ken Kelley - from every band in Toronto, and Bazil Donovan - of Blue Rodeo, get together once a month without rehearsal to play whatever songs they feel like. They invite guests to join them for the night and this month, it’s me! I gather we will play a couple of Newberry tunes, originals by other band members, and some classics. Come and watch me try to keep up.
Saturday June 28th (and every 4th Saturday of the Month) • Peterborough
Jethros Bar + Stage • 6:00pm to 8:00pm
Newberry Family Variety Hour(s) features my sister Sue and I playing our music for grownups in a space that welcomes people of all ages. “It’s not kids music, but you can bring your kids,” we say. Sometimes it’s just one of us, sometimes it’s both, sometimes there are guests of all flavours. No swears, it’s not too loud, and the performers understand that there will be kids being kids in the room - but other than that, its a show at a bar where you can bring your own food.
Thursday July 31st • Peterborough
Jalynn Bennett Amphitheatre @ Traill College • 7pm
Duelling Disciplines with Justin Million
Justin Million is one of my favourite poets, hands down. And after years of talking about it, we’re finally going to play a (free) show in the beautiful amphitheatre located at Trent University’s downtown campus. Justin has a manuscript. I’ve got some songs. Together we’ve got some great ideas. It’s going to get competitive.
